Victor Melendez Jr., 40, was arrested after police said he fatally shot Christopher Beasley, 32, then tried to shoot another person and fled the scene.

Police later learned that Melendez and another person were standing in the front yard when Beasley pulled up in his car. After the person greeted Beasley, Melendez fired one shot at Beasley

The person said they heard another gunshot while running away and then saw Melendez pointing his gun at them.

A day after Melendez fatally shot Beasley, police said Melendez was found hiding in the residence and was then shot and injured by family members of witnesses.

Melendez was interviewed by police in the hospital.

Melendez was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
