Arizona Deputy charged on suspicion of unlawful sexual conduct by an officer

A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy faces charges on suspicion of unlawful sexual conduct, officials announced on Sunday.

Gary M. Kaplan, 46, was arrested and booked on Oct. 4 on suspicion of two counts of unlawful sexual conduct by a peace officer.

Under Arizona law, it is illegal for a peace officer to have sexual relations with a person who is in their custody or is the subject of an investigation. MCSO did not detail the alleged incidents in its release.
