Florida school security officer arrested for abusing a child with autism

Teachers at Knights Elementary School in Plant City called the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after seeing the school’s security officer becoming violent with a 9-year-old student with autism, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Lashman, 57, is facing a child abuse charge after confronting the student who was verbally disruptive but had already been calmed down by the time Lashman arrived, according to the arrest report.

Lashman aggressively restrained the child dragging him into the building hitting his body against a doorway and pushing the 9-year-old against a wall, Teachers told deputies.

The child had minor swelling on the back of his head but did not need to go to a hospital, deputies say.
