Gas station clerk with baseball bat fights off robber with gun in Florida

Leroy Edwards, 37, walked in, locked a door, and demanded money at gunpoint.

The clerk did not have time to hit the panic button before Edwards went behind the counter and started a scuffle. However, gas station owner Orlando Sosa Perez was able to witness the robbery remotely on real-time surveillance video and he called 911.

Arrastia raised his hands and told Edwards he could take whatever he wants. In addition to cash from the register, Edwards wanted the store’s surveillance videos and password to the safe, but Arrastia said he did not have access to those.

Edwards struck and choked Arrastia during their struggle, but when the suspect turned away for a second the clerk grabbed a baseball bat from under the counter and started hitting Edwards repeatedly.

Edwards grabbed some cash and ran out another door as deputies arrived.
