Massachusetts dad allegedly killed by homeless man at Florida hotel
A homeless convicted killer who had been staying at a South Florida hotel as part of an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus has been charged with fatally stabbing and stomping on the throat of a married father from Massachusetts.
Charles Morgan, 59, of Martha\u00e2\u0080\u0099s Vineyard, stopped at the Rodeway Inn & Suites in Dania Beach while on his way to visit relatives when he befriended a fellow hotel guest- convicted killer Alphonso Washington, 59.
Surveillance videos from the hotel's property show Morgan walking with Washington on the grounds, and then later entering Morgan's room the next morning.
Washington is later reportedly seen leaving Morgan's room with a bag about noon on Aug. 2.
When cops found Morgan on lying on the bathroom floor the next day, his larynx was crushed so badly it had likely been caused by the killer \u00e2\u0080\u009cstomping on a person\u00e2\u0080\u0099s throat,\u00e2\u0080\u009d according to a police report cited by the Sun-Sentinel.
He also suffered neck wounds from a \u00e2\u0080\u009csharp-edged instrument,\u00e2\u0080\u009d and was pronounced dead a the scene, police said.
Morgan, who went by the nickname Charlie, had been married to Jackie Flynn-Morgan for 22 years. He also had a 19-year-old daughter, Mary.
